The demolition of the Total Petrochemicals plant in Stalybridge is nearing the end, in line with the December completion date. The project posed a range of technically difficult challenges including the removal of hazardous materials from the 1950's vintage site. Process plant and equipment for re-use wewe removed together with associated utilities equipment, pipe bridges, cables, pipework, tank farms, workshops, laboratories and offices.

The historic polystyrene manufacturing site, located close to the centre of Stalybridge, presented many logistical considerations being near live railway lines, a primary school, a busy highway and adjacent to the River Tame and the Huddersfeld Canal.
