Staff at Asda in Hyde have raised more than £1000 towards the funeral costs of fellow worker Eddie Adegun, 81, who died just before christmas leaving no known relatives. Eddie worked at Asda in Hyde for more than eight years right up until christmas when he lost his battle against throat cancer.
Eddie faced a paupers funeral until staff at the store stepped in to raise money. Colleagues described him as a "much loved man with a big warm smile who always used to crack a joke and engage customers in conversation" and added that "he just exuded happiness and positivity and we were like a family to him".
He died at Christies where medics agreed to look after Eddie's body until his pals have raised enough money to pay for a proper funeral.
