Historic New Mill DUKINFIELD, which was badly damaged in the storms six weeks ago, is to be demolished. Businesses and residents living nearby were evacuated after it became structurally unsound.
The owners were hoping to restore the 17th century mill to it's former glory but unfortunately due to the extensive damage this is not feasable. Local residents are still unsure when they can return to their homes as demolition equipment is expected to be moved in within the next few days.
The decision to demolish the building is the only one which makes financial sense. Tameside council are keen for things to be sorted quickly as they have been concerned that the local residents and local businesses have been unable to return to the area.
