The grand opening of Tameside's Ashton Christmas Market was witnessed by thousands of people and included a lantern parade, christmas lights switch on and a fireworks display. Tameside Council leader Kieran Quinn described the continental-style christmas markets(a first for Tameside)as a huge success and said " if it's popularity continues right up to christmas we can look forward to make it even bigger and better next year".
The Christmas Market features 30 stalls selling crafts food and gifts from British and continental producers is open until December 22nd with daily live music,choirs and brass band performances as well as childrens rides.The market is open 3pm to 9.30 pm Mondat to Friday, 10am to 9.30 pm on saturdays and 10am to 5pm on Sundays. There is also free car parking available.
