After years in the waiting the first tram left the Metrolink stop at Ashton-Under-Lyne at 5.59 this morning. Over 40 passengers boarded the tram even though it was still dark outside,they included locals waiting to board the first tram,Metrolink staff and commuters setting off early in order to be on the first ever tram from Ashton.
Edith Rodgers,head of Metrolink who was on board the tram said "Its been a build up. We've been looking forward to the line connecting up."
