For the second year running Ashton market has won the title of Britain's greenest market by the National Market Traders Federation.A number of green schemes have been initiated by Tameside Council for the market including the new rycycling hub, recycling litter bins, re-usable shopping bags and "love food hate waste" cooking demonstrations.
The market has cut it's waste by 70% in the last four years.John Taylor said that Tameside Council "has a long term commitment to reducing it's carbon footprint". He pointed to the award as testimony to the hard work put in by many people involved in the market making it a very eco friendly operation.
