As the season draws to a close Tameside's rugby teams play some fine rugby Aldwinians beating Workington 40 - 24 in the North Lancs and Cumbria league, Ashton Rugby club also won beating Trafford MV, unfortunately Dukenfield lost 31 - 7 away at Southport.
Ashton Rugby Club ended their league programme on a high with a fine win away at Trafford MV in the North lancs. Division one. MV opened the scoring early on with a penalty, but Tom Jackson levelled the scores with a penalty in reply as Ashton took control of the game and were 13-3 in front at half time.
Trafford scored another penalty just after the interval and although Ashton managed to score another penalty in reply, MV scored two tries and converted both of them tyo level the scores with 5 minutes to go.
In the nick of time Tommi Holden powered his way through the home sides defence and touched down for a fourth Ashton try to seal victory. Try scorer's for Ashton were Danny Turton, Declan Gaffrey, Neil Pearson and Tommi Holden, with Thomas Jackson scoring one conversion and a penalty.
A great result to end a very satisfactory season for Ashton after they were promoted to the North Lancs. Division One. Ashton now have the Lanchashire Bowl final to look forward to and a chance to win their first County Silverware.
