Tameside football update 11th October

Mossley were the only Tameside team to gain any points today, (in the Tameside derby against Droylsden), Hyde Fc, Curzon Ashon, Ashton United and Droylsden all lost. Stalybridge Celtic had no game today.

Hyde FC lost 4-1 away to Hednesord, Connor Hughes scored a consolation penalty for the Tigers. Hyde stay rooted to the bottom of the table.

Ashton United went down 1-0 away at Spennymoor, whilst Curzon Ashton lost 2-1 away at Barwell (Samuel Walker scoring for Curzon)

Mossley cruised into an early lead in the Tameside derby against Droylsden, and must surely have been expecting a tougher test than what faced them, as Mark Fish grabbed the first of his brace on 15 minutes.

Russ Saunders, appearing one of his old stomping grounds, will be disappointed to have conceded a 30 yard free kick from Oliver Devenney just five minutes later, and when Peter Dogun hauled down Fish in the box, and the Mossley frontman notched his second from the spot.

Tom Pratt and Andy Keogh also went close for Mossley, with Ali Brown’s header at the other end Droylsden’s only chance of note in a poor first half showing from them.  Indeed, The Bloods could have easily been 1-6 down on chances created at the break.

If Droylsden were to get back into the game, they needed an early breakthrough.  They were the next to score from Ben Deegan’s head just after the hour mark, but when Mossley's Ben Purcell turned and shot past Saunders a couple of minutes later it was game up.

Deegan notched his second for Droylsden with another header just before the end, but Mossley ran out worthy winners with a 4-2
