Tameside football round up August 16th


Pride of place goes to Droylsden who hammered Bamber Bridge 7-1 away in their opening match in the Evostick First division North.

Robbie Savage described the Bloods result as his non-league "performance of the day" on the BBC's 606 sports show.  Hyde FC and Stalybridge Celtic lost in the Vanarama Conference North, while Curzon Ashton won and Ashton United drew in their openers in the Evostick Northern Premier. Mossley lost their opener in the Evostick First Division North.

Vanarama Conference North

Hyde FC lost 4-2 at home to Colwyn Bay and Stalybridge Celtic went down 3-0 at home to Solihull Motors.

Evostick Northern Premier.

Ashton United drew 2-2 away at Belper. With two first half goals from Chris Baguley and Richard Bennett it looked like the Robins were heading for victory, it wasn't to be, the home side came back strongly in the second half to level the scores. Curzon Asnton beat Marine at the Tameside Stadium courtesy of a late Nial Cummins goal.

Evostick First Division North

Droylsden got off to a flying start beating Bamber Bridge 7-1 in their own backyard. Fernando Moke opened the scoring for the Bloods and went on to score a hat trick. Droylsden's other goals came from Kevin Leadbetter, Carlos Meakin, Dan Green and Ben Deegan. A great result for Droylsden which sees them top of the table helping them to banish the bad memories of last season. Mossley went down 3-1 to Kendal at Seel Park despite going ahead in the 36th minute through an Andy Keogh header. In the face of a howling gale Mossley conceded three second half goals to end up on the losing side.
