September Tameside Football Round Up


Curzon Ashton ended the month top of the Evo stick Premier and are the only Tameside team

certain to be in the next round of the FA Cup.

Hyde Fc got their first league win of the

season, Stalybridge Celtic also won just once in september. Ashton United and Droylsden

made steady progress in the Evo-Stick Northern Premier and Mossley Fc are handily placed

in the Evostick Division One North.


Hyde Fc started the month with a 1-1 draw away at  Gloucester then lost the next two games

1-0, at home to Hednesford and by the same score away at Brackley. On the 20th September

Hyde got that elusive victory with an emphatic 5-1 win at home to Lowestoft. Hyde were

also unlucky to go out of the Fa Cup after losing 5-4 at Ewen Fields. Stalybridge celtic

had a poor September losing 1-0 at home to Leamimgton FC and  were also on the wrong end

of a 1-0 scoreline at Harrogate. Celtic also went out of the FA cup at the hands of

Sheldon, who were 1-0 victors at Bower Field.


Curzon Ashton went top of the Evo - Stick Northern Premier after four conescutive wins,

although they started the month losing 3-2 at home to Rushall Olympic. Wins at Witton

Albion (3-1), Burscough (1-0), Stourbridge (1-0) and a 2-0 victory at the Tameside Stadium

saw them reach top spot. Curzon also progessed to the next round of the FA cup beating

Scarborough 1-0 at home in the Second Qualifying round. Ashton united put up in some solid

performances losing only once, 1-0 at Marine. The Robins drew three times 1-1 away at

Skelmersdale United, 0-0 away at Grantham and shared the points with a 1-1 draw at home to

Trafford. In the FA Cup the honours were shared forcing a replay in Salford, as United and

Salford City drew 1-1 at Hurst Cross. Droylsden continued their good start to the season

as they beat Darlington 1883 2-1 at the Butchers Arms and followed up the next week with a

fine 5-3 victory at Padiham, they also thrashed Ossett Albion 4 - 0 in the FA Cup First

Round Preliminary. However, they lost their last two games at the Butchers Arms losing 2-0

to Farsley in the league and going down 1-0 to Guiseley in the FA Cup Second Round

Qualifying game.


Mossley maintained their good form collecting 12 points in September by beating Lancaster

City 3-0 at home, Kendal 3-2 and Farsley 4-3 away from home and winning 2-1 at home to

Scarborough. Unfortunately they were on the losing side in their last match losing 4-0
