Youngsters  were knocked for six when two England cricketers called in at a half term sports camp.

Lancashire’s Stephen Parry and Kate Cross, who have represented both county and country, visited Astley Sports College in Dukinfield, Tameside, for a VIP coaching session.

Lancashire’s official mascot Lanky and Fred the Red from Manchester United also made a special appearance to the delight of the eight to 11 year olds.

Mark Storie organised the visit as director of Astley Sports Village, which works in partnership with Lancashire County Cricket Club and the Manchester United Foundation.

He said: “The coaching session itself was skills based and the kids also got a chance to speak to Stephen and Kate about what life is like as a cricketer.
