A state-of-the-art gym offering around the clock access is the latest in a package of exciting new facilities to step up Tameside’s fitness.
Active Tameside’s iTrain, opening in Dukinfield in the new year, will boast an array of features including over 150 pieces of equipment, a functional training zone, indoor running track a functional rig and a members’ lounge as well as free parking.
The centre will also have a finger print entry system, three exercise studios, a subterranean black box cycle studio, changing facilities and a DJ booth. A large soft play area and café will also be on site.
The centre is part of the £20m investment from Tameside Council and Active Tameside to help residents exercise more and improve health and wellbeing.
Other new facilities include Total Adrenaline trampoline and laser quest centre, due to open in Longdendale this autumn, and SkyHigh Adventure climbing and activity centre which opened in Droylsden last year.
Also included in the investment is a new 25m pool at Hyde, due to open next year, and Tameside’s new Wellness Centre based in Denton and aiming to open in 2018. The Wellness Centre will include a ten-pin bowling alley, a swimming pool with spectator area as well as a learners’ pool, a 60 station gym suite, exercise studios, soft play, a multi-sensory suite, a café, consulting rooms and space for partners and community groups.
There is also a programme of repairs replacing synthetic pitch surfaces, repairing drainage and upgrading AstroTurf panels at Active Copley and replacing the roof at Active Medlock and the wave machine at Active Hyde.
Tameside Council Executive Member for Healthy and Working Cllr Ged Cooney said: “The new iTrain gym will offer everything you would expect from a modern, state-of-the-art fitness facility and will be a fantastic new addition to the borough’s leisure offer.
“We want to support local people and families in keeping as active and healthy as possible and this will bring even more exciting activities and options to help them.”
