Curzon Ashton destroyed Conwy Borough in the first 45 minutes on their recent trip to Wales for a pre season friendly. Despite having five new players in the starting line up.
It wasn't long before Curzon got off the mark after constant early pressure on the Conwy goal, they were rewarded with two goals in three minutes to put them firmly in control. Simon Lakeland scored first with a fantastic dipping shot from the edge of the box following some good work by Matty Warburton and Joe Guest on 23 minutes, then Ryan Brooke added a second letting fly from a similar position.
Three goals in six minutes just before half time effectively won the game for Curzon beginning with a goal on his debut for Ben Atkinson. The ball was played up the right to Burnett who held it up well before playing in Brooke and he in turn squared for Atkinson to slam the ball home from 10 yards.
Goal number four on 40 minutes came from a disputed corner. Young full back Yomi took a short throw-in to Warburton who gave him the ball back where he crossed for Burnett whose header was off target. The referee ruled the ball had brushed a defender on it's way out of play and the home defence possibly lost concentration, feeling hard done by as Ryan Brooke had a free header from the flag kick, picking his spot to score his second of the game.
Burnett made it 5-0 a minute before the interval, springing the offside trap on the left and making his way into the box before slipping the ball past the keeper at the near post.
Conwy recovered in the second half and pulled two goals back, but in the end it was a resounding 5 - 2 victory for Curzon who, apart from a spell in the second half, controlled the game
