Householders are being urged to check if they qualify for the latest offer to save money on their energy bills.
Tameside Council is working with energy provider E.ON as part of a Greater-Manchester wide project to help residents with energy saving home improvements including new boilers and loft and cavity wall insulation.
The offer is completely free to qualifying households – there’s no requirement to be an E.ON customer. Residents could save up to £540 a year by insulating their homes and replacing old or faulty boilers.
Anyone who owns or privately rents their home from a landlord and claims certain income related benefits can call E.ON on 0800 508 8008 to see if they qualify for help. A free survey will then be arranged for their home.
Tameside Council Carbon and Waste Reduction Panel Chair Cllr Barrie Holland said: “Many people struggle to afford to heat their homes adequately, which can to wide-ranging health issues. Home insulation and an energy efficient boiler can help to reduce fuel bills while also having a positive impact on health.
“I would urge people to get ahead of the winter weather and check now to see if they qualify for this free time-limited offer, which is designed to help the most vulnerable households.”
Tony Lloyd, Mayor of Greater Manchester, said: “Greater Manchester’s local authorities are working to help GM residents get the expert help they need with faulty or broken boilers and home insulation. This scheme could help cut energy bills and make homes more energy efficient, which is good for residents and the environment. I hope people in Greater Manchester take advantage of this scheme over the next six months.”
