The first ever Tameside Diversity Festival will take place in January as part of National Hate Crime Awareness Week.
The celebrations will include events taking place across Tameside every day from Monday 19 January – Sunday 25 January.
The aim of the Festival is to promote diversity and celebrate the different communities that make up Tameside.
We are encouraging all local groups to get involved by doing whatever they can during the week to celebrate diversity and bring different groups of people together.
Here’s how you can get involved:
- Attend one of our events - many of the events and activies taking place during the week are open to everyone – have a look at the attached programme to see if there’s anything you fancy!
- Open your group up to people who wouldn’t normally attend, or using an existing group meeting to focus on diversity and difference e.g. by exploring different foods, different ways of dressing etc.
- Take part in our social media ‘Thunder-clap’ – to be part of this, all you need to do is change your twitter status on Monday 19 January at 12noon to ‘Don’t judge me until you’ve walked in my shoes #walkinmyshoes’
- Complete the #walkinmyshoes template and send it back to us
Hate Crime Awareness week provides a fantastic oportuinity for us to focus on diversity but our efforts to tackle discrimination are endless. A lot of people in Tameside suffer discrimination every day of their lives and ‘Walk in my Shoes’ in a way of us showing our support.
