Tameside adults will be offered a free blood pressure check as part of a campaign to tackle hypertension.
It is estimated that one in three adults in Tameside have high blood pressure – also known as hypertension. It is one of the leading risk factors for premature death and disability and can lead to stroke, heart attack, heart failure, chronic kidney disease and dementia.
However the condition often goes unnoticed as it doesn’t have any symptoms. The only way to find out is to have regular checks.
Adults are invited to get a free blood pressure check at Ashton Arcades Shopping Centre on Friday 29 January between 10am and 3pm. The event is part of a new campaign being led by a partnership of Tameside Council, Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group and Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust.
Those people unable to attend are encouraged to book an appointment with their GP.
You can take steps to prevent high blood pressure by:
losing weight if you need to
reducing the amount of salt you eat
eating a healthy diet
cutting back if you drink too much alcohol
cutting down on caffeine
