Christmas festive events in Tameside starts in Droylsden on Saturday, November 14, and ends in Ashton on Friday, December 11, with the Tameside Christmas Celebration which coincides with the opening of the third Tameside Christmas Market.
Saturday, November 14
Craft fair in Concord Suite – 10am to 4pm. Family entertainment in the civic square from 2pm including fairground rides, hog roast, ale tent, face painting and tombola. Father Christmas. Lights switch-on in civic square at 6.30pm. Organised by Droylsden Town Team.
Thursday, November 19
Four-day Christmas market opens in civic square. Open daily from 11am to late. Hot food, arts and crafts, mulled wine, crepes, funfair, traditional sweets, Christmas gifts. Family ice rink.
Friday, November 20
Entertainment in civic square from 5pm with the Tameside Radio Road Show, the Freedom Dancers, members of Bennett Street Youth Centre and children from Godley Primary School, Godley, plus pantomime characters from “Snow White”. Lights switch-on at 6.30pm by Father Christmas and the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Vincent Ricci. Arranged with help from Hyde Town Team. Synthetic ice rink on Friday and Saturday.
Saturday, November 21
Lights switch-on 6pm in the civic square by the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Vincent Ricci.
Sunday, November 22
Christmas market closes. 3pm – final of Denton’s GotTalent followed by spectacular fireworks finale.
Wednesday, November 25
Christmas celebration event at Ryecroft Hall including brass band, carols, children’s activities and entertainment. From 4pm.
Thursday, November 26
Dukinfield Town Hall, King Street: 6pm – switch-on, Father Christmas, Yew Tree Singers, post box for letters to Santa.
Lantern parade leaves Mossley market ground at 6pm and makes its way around the streets to the George Lawton Hall where Father Christmas will arrive at 6.45pm. Switch-on at 7pm after which children will have the chance to meet Father Christmas in the hall. Brass band music.
Saturday, November 28
Proceedings start in Grosvenor Square at 5pm with music from a DJ and a Minion. Father Christmas arrives in Grosvenor Square at 5.20pm. At 5.40pm characters from the Disney film “Frozen” will be singing and at 6pm Father Christmas will turn on the lights before making his way round on the Rotary Club sleigh.
Friday, December 11
Christmas Celebration event in Old Cross Street car park and opening of the Tameside Christmas Market 5 to 8.30pm.
Lots of entertainment including songs from Disney’s “Frozen” featuring Princess Elsa, Anna and Olaf.
Carols led by Ashton Band and guest appearances from Peppa Pig and Father Christmas.
Peppa will also be available to meet children as will one of Santa’s elves, who will be giving away crafted balloons to children. Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will also be joining in the fun.
