The recently launched monthly outdoor market outside Tameside Hopsital has been a huge success with some traders completely selling out of produce at the inaugaration of the first market on June 30th.
The stalls set up outside the entrance, were busy with patients, visitors and staff buying a variety of fresh local produce including fruit and vegetables, fresh bread and olives as well as gifts and plants.
The market will continue to run on the last Tuesday of the month throughout the summer - the next one will be on 28 July. The idea is to provide a service that encourages people to eat better – promoting health and wellbeing – while supporting their local producers.
The organisers have been delighted to work with the hospital on the project which helps to promote health and wellbeing whilst also supporting local traders.
A spokesman said; “We all have a greater understanding of the important role fresh and nutritious food can play in our health, and I believe we have a duty of care at Tameside Hospital to offer every opportunity to contribute to the long term development of healthy eating habits, the partnership with Tameside Council will help us do that."
Some comments from the Traders:
“It’s a good idea and I’ve had great feedback from customers. There’s a good variety of stalls for different people – including nice ideas for gifts to take to patients.”
“It’s a good idea and I’ll definitely be coming back. A lot of staff seem to buying products as well as the public, so it’s going down well all around.”
