Local support group, the ‘Tameside Tappers’ group, which holds regular coffee mornings and raffles to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, made a donation of £466.31.
The 25-strong group, who all either suffer from cancer or support someone who does, meet on the first Wednesday of every month at Tameside Hospital’s Ladysmith Building.
The sessions, which are run by specialist nurse Tracey Heslop, offer information, advice and befriending opportunities for people with cancer and their carers.
Secretary Sylvia Philburn joined the group to support her husband Steve, who suffers from oesaphagul cancer, but has recently been diagnosed with bowel cancer herself.
She said: “Everyone in the group suffers from cancer, we help each other and are very supportive of each other.
“If you are having a bad day somebody else within the group will pick you up.
“We all plan to continue raising money as a group, it will be an ongoing thing.
