Fourteen year old Maizy Burke from Audenshaw, had her wish to ride in a pink limousine made a reality thanks to the treat which was organised by Starlight Children’s Foundation, the UK’s leading wish granting charity for children and young people with serious and terminal illness.
She was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2013, a rare cancer of the white blood cells which prevents the body fighting off other infections and viruses.
Her family and friends were determined to celebrate her birthday in style and arranged in secret for a chauffeur-driven limo to pick her up.
Maizy’s mum said It had been an extremely tough time for all of the family but Maizy had been incredible in the way she has dealt with her illness. She has been svery brave from the start and always remains positive and had to miss out on a lot due to hospital appointments but she has an amazing group of friends who are a real support system to her.
In spite of all the challenges she has had to face, Maizy was able to briefly forget about her problems when the dayglo pink limousine turned up on the doorstep to whik Maizy, Meshelle, nana Jean and five of her best friends to a swish tea party at Richmond Tea Rooms.
Maizy had a great time and desribed it as "amazing" to have shared her birthday with her friends who have helped her during so much treatment.”
