Brennan Reece 28-year-old comedian from Ashton-under-Lyne was crowned the English Comedian of the Year last week at a finale held at the Udderbelly Festival at The Southbank Centre in London.
The stand-up comedy artist had to go through a number of heats before he reached the final round last week. To decide the winner, the judges based their decision on the originality, performance and audience response for each act’s 10 minute routine.
“There are so many people and acts at the festival it’s nice to stand out from some of the other competition”
“I have always been interested in stand-up since I was young.”
He added. “I went to drama school but wanted to try something different. When I did it the first time I quite enjoyed it, so I did it again, and again, and again. I started doing gigs at home in the North West and I worked my way up."
As well as winning a cash prize the 28-year-old has secured a place on a comedy tour down under.
