Former Tameside College student wins BTEC Sports Student of the Year

Hayley Simpson, former Tameside College Sports student won Outstanding BTEC Sport Student of the Year 2015 at the National BTEC Awards.
The awards ceremony celebrates  was held at the Royal Horticultural Hall in London on 7th July 2015. The awards recognise the nearly one million students around the country who are studying BTEC qualifications. The awards were hosted by comedian Rob Beckett.
 
Hayley, her family and college tutors, Tracey and Rebecca  all attended a Parliamentary reception at the House of Commons, ahead of the awards which took place in the evening. 
 
Hayley  for her hard work and dedication to the course, on completion of the course, Hayley achieved a triple-starred distinction and is now studying Sports Coaching at Leeds Beckett University. Driven by her desire to become a Physical Education teacher, Hayley gained several other sports qualifications alongside her BTEC, including the FA Level 1 Coaching Football certificate, a Young Club Managers qualification and the ECB Young Leaders Award.
 
The judges described Hayley as an outstanding BTEC student who combines her excellent grades with impressive sporting achievements describing her as " a role model to other students through her work as a volunteer and Young Ambassador".
 
Hayley Simpson said; "I am thrilled to win this award. My BTEC course helped me understand so much more about Sport and develop my skills within this area. It has also given me more self-confidence and desire to follow my ambition of becoming a Physical Education teacher."
